This infill housing project in Mönchengladbach combines a large kindergarten, eight family apartments of varying sizes, and a multifunctional event space within a compact urban site. The design responds directly to the surrounding context by adapting the roof heights and window proportions of neighbouring buildings. Open balconies and external staircases on both sides create a clear, structured circulation system while encouraging interaction among residents. A wooden balustrade protects the kindergarten from the street and unifies the façade composition. Shared rooftop gardens and terraces provide communal outdoor space, while large glazed openings bring natural light into the public areas. Careful massing maximises density without overwhelming the neighbourhood, creating a balanced relationship between private and shared functions. The ground floor remains active and welcoming, supporting community engagement throughout the day. Sustainable materials and efficient planning strengthen the urban fabric locally today.
