History Museum

Portugal
2023
A history museum and gallery is proposed in a rural village in Portugal, embedded within a dramatic stone and cliff landscape. The architectural concept is based on organic forms that weave through and interact with the existing rocky topography. In contrast to the sharp, fractured edges of the cliffs, the building flows in soft, continuous geometries that emphasise dialogue between nature and constructed space. The design is grounded in sustainable materials such as rammed earth, clay bricks, and steel, ensuring both durability and environmental sensitivity. At the entrance, a solid, linear stone wall establishes a strong spatial threshold and organises circulation along a clear central axis. From this structural spine, organic walls unfold and branch out, shaping exhibition rooms, galleries, and transitional spaces that respond directly to the terrain and create a continuous spatial experience throughout the museum landscape.
